Mist Opportunity

Johanna stood shivering in the back of the cargo hold, one of two hundred fearless performers. The massive plane rumbled through the clear afternoon sky 6,000 meters above the valley floor. Johanna’s aircraft was second in a line of ten identical planes, all headed to the same destination.

Meanwhile, in StoneSport Stadium, a PetraCannon fired three times, rendering the champions in dazzling bronze, silver, and gold. Jim Ziegler addressed the 50,000 cheering fans.

“Ladies and gentlemen, that concludes our trophy ceremony for the PetraDash World Championship, but we’re not finished yet. We have a special treat for you on this gorgeous afternoon. They should be in position shortly. Please stand by.”

The rear door opened beside Johanna as a voice spoke over the intercom.

“Fifteen seconds to drop zone.”

Johanna took a deep breath and gazed into the open sky behind the plane.

“Ten seconds to drop zone.”

She looked back at her 199 fellow performers and smiled. This would be epic!

“Five seconds to drop zone. Four, three, two, one, go, go, go!”

Johanna leaped into the void without hesitation. The view was spectacular, with the valley spread out before her and surrounded by verdant hills. Directly below lay StoneSport Stadium.

The two hundred skydivers from the first plane plummeted ahead of Johanna in a tight column. She flipped over to see the other jumpers from her plane as the remaining aircraft disgorged their divers above them. Johanna was one of two thousand skydivers hurtling toward StoneSport Stadium without a stitch of clothing or a parachute among them.

Jim addressed the crowd after all the skydivers had jumped.

“Everyone, please direct your attention to the blue sky above. We have no fewer than two thousand jumpers headed our way. Let’s get a closer look on the big screen.”

The fans glanced upward and squinted to see the skydivers, then turned toward the massive screen at one end of the stadium. The video feed showed a close-up view of the lead jumpers. As people noticed the conspicuous lack of clothing and parachutes, their jaws dropped.

“Look at that, folks: naked skydivers! No parachutes either. Now I’ve seen everything. They’ll be here in sixty seconds, ladies and gentlemen. Prepare to be amazed!”

Johanna flipped back over to gaze below at the jumpers ahead of her. StoneSport Stadium was drawing nearer and nearer. She trembled in anticipation of what was about to happen. The skydivers near her whooped and hollered with excitement as all two thousand fell in a single column of flesh toward the 50,000 people directly below.

Johanna had done some crazy shit in her life, but this stunt was on a whole other level of insanity!

“Hell, yeah!” she screamed into the void, pumping her fists and grinning from ear to ear—only forty-five seconds to go.

Down in StoneSport Stadium, the mood had reached full panic as the nude skydivers drew closer and closer. People looked wildly around them but quickly realized they’d never make it to an exit in time. Jim addressed the frantic crowd.

“Don’t worry, folks! We have a plan, and it’s an awesome one at that. You’ll all have front-row seats to the stunning spectacle in just thirty seconds!”

Johanna and the others continued hurtling through the clear blue sky, closer and closer to the stadium below. Already, the lead jumpers were only fifteen seconds away. She basked in the goosebumps on her bare flesh, the rush of wind around her, and the exquisite sensation of falling. She had no regrets.

“Here they come, folks!” Jim shouted over the stadium speakers.

As the first jumpers fell within fifty meters, ten PetraCannons fired bright blue energy pulses at them. As the skydivers absorbed the laser blasts, their naked bodies disintegrated into clouds of steam. The unrelenting barrage continued unabated, converting the entire column of humanity into harmless water vapor.

Johanna stared wide-eyed as the jumpers below her vanished into thin air. It was even more surreal than she’d dreamed it could be when she eagerly signed up just an hour earlier, a last-minute substitute for someone who had unexpectedly canceled. Johanna smiled at her good fortune. She had nearly missed out on the most extraordinary experience of her life.

As she fell within fifty meters of the stadium, Johanna absorbed a bolt of energy, shuddering in ecstasy as she began to dissolve. The exquisite sensation was even more orgasmic than she’d dreamed!

“Oh, fuck! Oh, f…”

Johanna’s primal cry of passion trailed off as her naked body fully dematerialized into thin air, joining the growing cloud of vapor billowing onto the crowd below.

The PetraCannons continued pumping energy into the column of jumpers, steadily disintegrating them as they approached the stadium. When the crowd realized they wouldn’t get crushed by falling humans, they began to cheer. The volume increased until even the jumpers above them could hear their cries of adoration for the sexy spectacle.

Within sixty seconds, all two thousand skydivers had been vaporized. A haze of condensation settled on the spectators below and soon dissipated, leaving no trace of the naked daredevils who had created it.

“Ladies and gentlemen,” Jim began, “what did you think of their performance? Was that incredible or what? Let’s give it up for the Steam Punks! And the PetraTec engineers who wrote the new disintegration protocol for the PetraCannons.”

The fans clapped and cheered for a full minute, showing their admiration for the recently dematerialized daredevils and the people who made it possible. Jim continued.

“Believe me, folks. That will not be the last time we see such a spectacle here at StoneSport Stadium. And if you think you have what it takes to join the Steam Punks, contact your StoneSport recruiter immediately to secure your slot in the next performance.

“On that note, thank you so much for joining us today. We’ll return here tomorrow evening for a never-before-seen exhibition sport: VaporMaze. If you enjoyed the Steam Punks, you’ll love the disintegrating drama and excitement of VaporMaze! Tickets are on sale now. On behalf of everyone at StoneSport, I’m Jim Ziegler signing off. Have a pleasant evening, folks!”

Story notes

StoneSport is branching out beyond statues into disintegration. As the Steam Punks so fearlessly demonstrated, the sky is the limit. Just wait until you experience VaporMaze!

Many thanks to a real Johanna for lending her name to this story and allowing me to disintegrate her.
